Specialist Breast Care Centre (SBCC)

The purpose built breast cancer centre was built at a cost of 3million euro, and designed in accordance with current HIQA guidelines and opened in November 2009. The modern unit dedicated to Breast Cancer contains state–of-the-art facilities and equipment including patient waiting areas, patient changing areas, 2 mammography suites, an ultrasound suite and 3 consultant suites.

The newly designed breast cancer centre which is located in the former Maternity Hospital was designed in accordance with current HIQA guidelines and opened in November 2009. The modern unit dedicated to Breast Cancer contains state–of-the-art facilities and equipment including patient waiting areas, patient changing areas, 2 mammography suites, an ultrasound suite and 3 consultant suites.

  • We guarantee that all patients will be seen within 3 days of referral to the Specialist Breast Care Centre.
  • The centre is consultant led and delivered with a triple assessment service for all patients.
  • Triple assessment means that patients are seen by a surgeon, have imaging (mammogram / ultrasound) and biopsy (ultrasound guided core needle biopsy) done during the one visit.
  • Each patient is examined by the consultant prior to any tests being ordered. All procedures are carried out in the one department and the results of scans are available on the same day.

Making an Appointment:

An appointment time can be arranged with the GP or directly with the patient following GP referral.There are 2 ways that a GP can refer to the Specialist Breast Care Centre:

  1. Print the SBCC GP referral form. The completed form should be faxed to 021-4941911.
  2. Fill and submit the form electronically.
